Bollywood film ‘Lolita’ hits box office record with Rs 771.4 crore, surpassing $1B
Mumbai: Bollywood movie ‘Loliita’ has smashed box office records on its maiden release after it crossed Rs 7.71 crore at the domestic box office.
The film, which stars the likes of Shailaja Chopra, Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma, has become the highest grossing Hindi film at Rs 6.7 crore with more than Rs 5 crore coming from foreign markets.
The movie, which has been a success in the domestic market, has also racked up a grosses of Rs 3.6 crore in the foreign market.
The film, based on the novel by Arundhati Roy, had opened at number two in India on Sunday with Rs 2.51 crore.
A local film-maker, Shailaj Chopra of the film ‘Sukh Bharat’, who is the husband of actress and director Amitabh Bachchan, has announced his retirement from the industry.
“Loliitas success has been my first priority.
I will be going on my retirement,” he said.
Chopra is seen as the face of the Bollywood industry.
His movies have been hugely popular with the masses and he is the one behind some of the best known Bollywood movies like ‘Kung Fu Panda’ and ‘Kuch Paksha’.
