Severe weather and parking issues have pushed people to the brink of homelessness, leaving many in San Francisco and other cities facing extreme challenges in finding housing.
NBC News has learned that nearly 1,500 people have found themselves in that situation over the past two weeks, according to a count from the San Francisco Housing Authority.
San Francisco’s homeless population grew by 7,300 in 2016, according the California Department of Health.
More than 4,200 people are estimated to be homeless in the city right now, up from 4,100 in 2016.
